Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup sprint round before the 24 Hours of Zolder

With the 24 Hours of Zolder this coming weekend Circuit Zolder has reached one of its busiest meetings of the season and it goes without saying that the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup could not be missing from the billboard. The most diverse sprint championship of the Benelux is now in its fourth out of five meetings, and true to tradition will be running two half-hour sprints.

The Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup continues to grow and can count on more than 45 participants at Circuit Zolder. “Proof that the championship is a hit”, organiser Andy Jaenen confirmed. “Our new class allocation continues to bear its fruits and as result we can once again boast a well-balanced field this weekend. All classes contain at least five competitors, so there will be battles for top places on all fronts. Moreover, In BSSC2 we noted more than 10 participants on the provisional entry list, while BSSC3 has even rounded the 15 cars mark.”

In comparison with the previous race, this weekend we once again come across new drivers and cars at the start. One of the most striking cars is perhaps the new BMW M2 Competition entered by Lievens Motorsport. Father Paul and son Bart Lievens – who will each compete in one sprint – built the BSSC5 race machines based on a BMW M2 street version. Although the regulations do not allow the BMW M2 CS Racing, in this light we do have a BMW M2 at the start. The Lievens family is not lacking in experience and who knows, they might turn out to be the biggest challenger for the authoritarian championship leader Steven Maris.

Another car that will attract a fair amount of attention is the EJ Motorsport BMW 325i. Let’s freely call it the ‘primal -Clubsport’, because this right-hand drive car has appeared at the start of numerous national competitions and helped bring
about the popularity of the Clubsport formula in our country. A machine completely in the spirit of the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup and with Kata Bozó and Gregory Eyckmans at the wheel, this BSSC2 car could well bring about a surprise. Additionally, in BSSC1 we see Rob Reynders at the start in a Peugeot 206 GTI and for the first time this season Jo Lammens will be sharing the wheel of the BSSC3-BMW E90 with daughter Ines.

With five victories in six races Steven Maris is of course leading the provisional overall standings. He is currently the only competitor with more than 200 points to his name and naturally also leads the BSSC5 class. In the previous race Tom Van Eenaeme clinched a maximum score and with 160 points is lying in second place overall and leader in BSSC4. Dirk De Bock follows with 143 points and leads in BSSC3, while Laurens Cloots, thanks to a score of 121 points, is not only holding fifth place overall, but also the leader’s spot in BSSC2. This season Stella Keutmann and Nele Von der Ruhren have scored consistently and as such top the BSSC1 class.

With the start of the 24 Hours of Zolder foreseen on Saturday at 16.00hrs, the Belcar Skylimit Sprint Cup will be holding two races earlier on that day, namely at 9.55hrs and at 12.30hrs. Since Friday is traditionally a rest day at the 24 Hours of Zolder, the qualification sessions are on the menu on Thursday, at 10.45hrs and 14.45hrs.
